Chapter 4-7: Predefined Fields

ENTRY LEVEL

This field is used only for input processes and has meaning only during the DATA ADDITION interactive phase. It contains a number that essentially indicates the number of times the operator has selected Enter (assuming no errors were encountered). ENTRY LEVEL is not incremented until after the Verify and Pre-Display/Verify event points have completed successfully.

An entry level of 1 indicates the first time fields are modifiable on the image. An entry level of 2 indicates that the previously entered data has been verified plus additional fields may have been retrieved (or computed) and/or displayed, and such fields may now be available for entry or modification.

The entry level for any given item on an image - that is, the time at which the item becomes modifiable - is defined when the designer paints the image.

The entry level for an optional child can be set as an additional attribute. If set, that optional child cannot be invoked until the proper entry level is reached.
